Description
Presented to DJ Yella, this official RIAA Gold plaque commemorates the certified sale of over 500,000 copies of Eazy-Duz-It, the 1988 debut solo album from Eazy-E. Released through Ruthless Records and distributed by Priority, the record was the second full-length release from the Ruthless roster, arriving just months after Straight Outta Compton.
Produced entirely by DJ Yella and Dr. Dre, Eazy-Duz-It helped establish the production chemistry that defined the early sound of West Coast gangsta rap. The album blended dense funk samples, cinematic interludes, and narrative skits into a cohesive project that solidified Eazy-E’s public persona and expanded Ruthless’s creative range. Its lead single, “We Want Eazy,” became an MTV staple and was one of the earliest hip hop videos to feature animated visual effects. Tracks like “Boyz-n-the-Hood (Remix)” and “Eazy-Duz-It” became staples of the late ’80s rap canon.
While the Platinum award would follow later, this Gold certification marks the first major sales milestone the album achieved—verifying its early commercial momentum and Ruthless Records’ ability to translate underground heat into national sales. DJ Yella’s production credit on every track further underscores his central role in shaping not just this album, but the broader Ruthless catalog.
The plaque includes gold-colored vinyl and cassette elements, a photo of the Eazy-Duz-It album artwork, and an RIAA certification plate engraved with DJ Yella’s name. His signature appears on the outer glass of the framed award.
