Baseball from Tony Gwynn’s 1,329th career hit, recorded on September 3, 1989 at Jack Murphy Stadium against the Philadelphia Phillies. Facing reliever Jeff Parrett, Gwynn pulled a ground ball single to right field that drove in a run, adding to the Padres’ offense in a game they won 9–5.

The milestone came during a standout 1989 campaign in which Gwynn earned All-Star honors, finished eighth in National League MVP voting, and led the league with a .336 batting average and 203 hits—capturing his fourth career batting title.
